Room 21 Hip Hop Jump Jam

We love doing our fitness every morning. It gets our body and brain ready for the day ahead. Room 21 usually does 1 or 2 songs but today we decided to do all six songs. Here is video of some of the Room 21 students moving and grooving to the song Stop, Drop and Roll. We are getting really good at the moves.

Rugby World Cup Winners!

Welcome back to school! We are very excited for the start of Term 4. It will be a busy term with lots of things happening. We are extremely proud to say that the All Blacks won the Rugby World Cup 2011 in a tough game with France. It was very tense but we are so proud of everyone who worked really hard to make it happen.
Room 21 made another wordle using words to show our feelings about it. We think it's amazing and we are very proud to be World Cup Winners.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

Wow, what a fun Monday! It was great to come to school and talk about all the snowy adventures we had. Most of us went outside on Sunday night to play in the snow and loved having a snowfight! Others made snow angels and snow men and liked feeling the crunchy snow in their fingers. We are doing some writing this week about our experiences in the snow. We hope to share them with you soon.
Here is another wordle we made about the snow!

Fun doing Gymnastics!

Room 21 has been having a lot of fun during Gymnastics. We have been doing rebounds onto mats, balancing on two different leveled beams, one big one and one little one. When we get to the end of the beam we can scoop and turn. We do roly poly's on the mat and use the springboard to jump onto the horse. Gymnastics is so awesome and we are learning heaps!
We will try and take some photos next week to add to this post so you can see us in action!

Welcome back to school!

Welcome back Room 21!
What a busy week we have had. We got stuck into our work from day 1, by doing some amazing reading, writing and maths. At our team assembly we sang a lot of songs, but one song that everyone in the Ferns team loved was Dynamite. Here is a You Tube clip of the person that does all the music for the song with his mouth! We thought that was very cool.
We have also been very busy this week learning how to take macro shots with a digital camera. It is different from taking photos of our friends of landscapes, because we have to focus on one thing extremely up close. Look out for a few examples of macro shots on our blog in the upcoming weeks.

Celebrating Maori Language Week

Room 21 had a great time celebrating Maori Language Week and learned 2 different karakia to say in the classroom. We also did a survey of our favourite maori songs and decided to record one using a flip cam. Here we are clapping (paki paki) dancing (kani kani) turning (huri huri) jumping (e peke) and running (e oma). We had a lot of fun!

Roslyn School's Pyjama Day!

Last week, the boys and girls and teachers at Roslyn, came to school in their pyjamas. We collected food for the Salvation Army. Some families in Palmerston North do not have enough food to eat. It was fun dressing up in our pj's because we never get to wear our pj's to school.
Check out some photos of how much food we collected. We even practised our assembly item in our pj's!

Art with Rei

On Wednesday we had an artist visit Roslyn School. All of the classes went to the hall for an art class. The Ferns got to work with Rei using crayons. We learned how to draw whispering, talking and shouting waves. Before we could use our crayon we used our magic finger. Our magic fingers shows us what to do and how to draw in our minds so we know what our drawing will look like.
Brienna really liked drawing the final piece of art.
Elise liked drawing the bird using crayon.
Abby enjoyed drawing waves.
Onewhero liked drawing the windy waves.
Dwayne liked drawing a bird with a fish in it's mouth.
Alofaretta liked drawing the clouds.
Wairua liked the part when he got to draw a bird using a bloack crayon.
Danielle and Shakira had fun drawing the fish.
Niraj's favourite part was making clouds with a green crayon.

Checking out Roslyn School on Google Maps

Wow! Room 21 was really surprised to see Roslyn School on Google Maps. We learned how to get on to Google Maps and then clicked the satellite button to see a bird's eye view of our school. We were able to see the sand pit, the playground, the courts and our classroom!

What a cool feature! What else can we goole map? What other environments do we want to check out?

Our Class Dinosaur Poems

Hi Everybody,

I hope you have enjoyed looking at our dinosaur poems. We have been learning how poems work, using onoematopeia and similies. We have done some amazing art work about dinosaurs using crayon and dye focusiing on magic white as an outline. We drew our dinosaurs on the computer using the 'paint' programme and then wrote our poems into the outlines.
